Anyone ever see El Mariachi? (of course I'm being sarcastic, you've all seen it... right?) it was shot on film, bullet hits, no sync sound etc. etc. For about $7,000. Shitload of work, but it is possible.

Cube 2?! The only way I could see that being as good as the first is if it took the same scenario but with different people reacting in different ways. And you'd still need a math genius and an idiot sevant.

Yes, however he had to sacrifice a lot in terms of the quality of acting, lighting, shot selection, etc. It's inevitable that the quality will suffer the more complex the film is, working with such low budgets/resources.
More films set in one location:
-The Haunting (Black and white version)
-Go, Go Second Time Virgin (Japanese film set almost entirely on a rooftop)
-Titanic (Set almost entirely on a very big boat http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif)
------------------
The Clint Eastwood film "The Beguiling" was set all in one house. And "Dirty Harry" was set entirely in San Francisco.

Who cares if Mariachi had to 'suffer' in terms of everything you mentioned - he's an extremely rich successful film-maker as a result.

You're right. Who cares about quality?

My point is: I liked Mariachi. And it's so fast cut you don't even have a chance to notice some of the shots are out of focus/over exposed.
And yes - who cares about *technical* quality if you have a shit story?

God damm it, once again that name rodriguez fouls this board

I'm just saying he is a successful film-maker, and as such should be studied for information purposes. A bit like old people - they should be studied to determine what nutrients they can provide us with.
